You need to have Java installed on the machine that you use to decrypt your orders.
Any browser can order from your web page.
The Prerequisites for the Securecottage Ecommerce Web System are:
- You need Internet Explorer V5, V6, or V7
to use the merchant decryption web pages since an ActiveX control is used. Users of Firefox on
Windows can download and install a Firefox browser
plugin to use the system also.
Note: All popular browsers can order using the SecureCottage Ecommerce method
(see table below), but because of the use of the NantesPersistant ActiveX or SecureCottagePersistant
Firefox plugin controls you
must use Internet Explorer or Firefox on Windows for the merchant pages.
- You need to have Java installed on the PC you will be decrypting your messages on.
Java was a standard option on all Windows installations but as of XP SP1a+ installs, it is no longer
a standard option and must be downloaded from www.java.com.
If you upgraded from WIN98 to XP you should be okay.
- The generation of a private 1024 bit RSA key, associated with your
email address, and the publishing the accompanying public RSA key
to SecureCottage's RSA database. To decrypt messages you need to be on a PC that this private key
is on, ie., the PC you generated the key on. (You can move this key from machine to machine
by archiving it to a floppy and restoring it to another machine that has the NantesPersistant ActiveX
control or SecureCottagePersistant plugin installed).
Most of the above requirements can be met by selecting the 30 day trial menu item on the
top and taking up the 30 day trial offer. A six step process will happen that
guides you through most of the prerequisites. There is no obligation incurred to
start this trial.
Anyone can order using the SecureCottage Ecommerce web system, whether they have Java or not.
The SecureCottage Ecommerce ordering system has been tested on the following browser configurations:
